Ma’ale Adumim is a city located seven kilometers from Jerusalem on Highway 1. In 2015 its population was 37,670. The name Ma’ale Adumim of the town is mentioned in the book of Joshua 15:7 and Joshua 18:17. The boundary of the tribe of Judah rose from the Valley of Achor to Debir and turned north to Gilgal, facing the Ascent of Adumim, which is south of the wadi. The name literally means ‘Ascent of Red’ which refers to the distinctive red rock lining the ascent from the Dead Sea.
