Kiryat Ata also still known by its former name of Kfar Ata and Qiryat Ata is a city in the Haifa District. In 2015 it had a population of 55,500. It has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool and rainy winters. The hottest month is July and the coldest is February.
Archeological surveys in the northeast of the city have shown evidence of habitation dating to the Bronze, Iron, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Mamluk eras.
It was mentioned as part of the domain of the Crusaders in 1283. It came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in 1517.
During the British Mandate in 1885 the population was about 285 inhabitants. In the 1922 the census showed a population of 400. In 1925 a Zionist organisation purchased 10,000 dunums in Kefr Etta from the Sursock family of Beirut. By 1945 the population of Kefar Atta the were 1,690 Jews living in the area.
During the 1929 Arab riots the town was attacked and abandoned. A year later the residents returned and rebuilt the community. It was renamed Kiryat Ata in 1965 when the village was merged with adjacent Kiryat Binyamin.
